Kayaking

I took a kayaking trip from Chicago Montrose beach to Zion Illinois State Beach Park. Total trip was 36 miles. Along with breaks it took me 12 hours to complete. Average Trip speed was 2.8 mph and average moving speed (not including breaks) was 3.7 mph. My main concern was to get to the state park in time to reserve a campsite for it was walk in reservations only.
Water swells in the morning were 1 to 2 feet, but towards afternoon they
rose to about 3 to 4 feet.

My destination in the morning. It was a terrific trip, the only downfall was getting to my destination after sundown so I had to set up the tent and move all my things in the dark.

1st Kayaking Trip
I ended up going kayaking on Fox River in Illinois. I got onto the water at 7am and returned at 1pm. It was my first time out on my new kayak as well as kayaking in general for a long time. Fox River was overflowing due to large amount of rain we had last couple of weeks. I went downstream just under 8 miles and then 8 back up stream again. This was definetly a challange....and I got bad sunburn too.
All in all a great trip and starter for the long summer of training ahead.
